PENA – Sejak peralihan saham sebesar 75 persen dari Newcreast kepada PT Indotan Halmahera Bangkit pada tahun 2019 lalu, hingga kini pihak PT Nusa Halmahera Mineral (NHM) belum menyampaikan ke publik kondisi lingkungan hasil dari kegiatan pengolahan biji emas di Kabupaten Halmahera Utara.
“Kami tentu mengapresiasi kegiatan sosial kemasyarakatan yang dilakukan pihak NHM, serta realisasi program-program pengembangan masyarakat yang telah dilakukan,” kata Koordinator KATAM Maluku Utara (Malut), Muhlis Ibrahim, Rabu (17/2).
Akan tetapi, lanjut Muhlis, soal kondisi lingkungan di wilayah operasi pertambangan, NHM harus terbuka dan menyampaikan tentang kondisi itu publik.
Muhlis mengatakan, seperti diketahui pada saat Newcreast masih berkuasa di NHM, telah banyak kasus lingkungan yang terjadi. Salah satunya adalah pencemaran laut teluk Kao.
Selain itu, dikutip dari mongabay.co.id tentang hasil penelitian Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) tahun 2010, menemukan beberapa jenis ikan dan biota laut terkontaminasi bahan berbahaya seperti sianida dan merkuri.
Bahkan, penelitian itu menyebutkan jika kandungan sianida di tubuh kakap merah, belanak, dan udang di Tanjung Taolas dan Tanjung Akesone sudah melebihi ambang batas aman, berkisar 1,52 ppms – 4,5 ppm WHO (2004), hingga sangat membahayakan jika dikonsumsi.
“Hal ini tentu menjadi perhatian serius bagi semua pemerhati lingkungan di Maluku Utara. Karena persolan lingkungan sangat erat kaitannya dengan kehidupan manusia,” tukas Muhlis. (*)
