PENA – Danau Karo, salah satu danau yang berada di Pulau Obi, Kabupaten Halmahera Selatan, Provinsi Maluku Utara, patut mendapatkan perhatian serius dari pemerintah setempat.
Pasalnya, danau yang terletak di belakang Desa Kawasi tersebut merupakan danau terbesar di Pulau Obi. Dimana dalam beberapa tahun terakhir turut berkonstribusi terhadap Pendapatan Asli Daerah (PAD) dalam konteks pajak air permukaan.
Hal itu disampaikan Koordinator Konsorsium Advokasi Tambang (KATAM) Maluku Utara, Muhlis Ibrahim, Selasa (6/4) hari ini.
Sampai saat ini, sambung Muhlis, pemanfaatan air dari Danau Karo terus berlangsung. Ada dua perusahan besar yang memanfaatkan sumber danau itu, yaitu PT. Trimega Bangun Persada (Harita Nickel Group) dan PT Wana Tiara Persada.
Muhlis menyatakan, kebutuhan akan air dari perusahan tersebut sangat tinggi. Jika mengacu pada data analisis kebutuhan air perusahaan tambang Pulau Obi yang pernah dirilis oleh peneliti lingkungan Taty Hernaningsih, menjelaskan bahwa di tahun 2019 kebutuhan air untuk kegiatan pertambangan dan industri (pabrik) dapat mencapai 3,80 juta meter kobik setiap tahunya.
Bahkan, diprediksikan meningkat menjadi 22, 21 juta meter kobik bilamana pabrik dan PLTU telah difungsikan.
“Hal ini tentu akan mempengaruhi kondisi ekosistem dari Danau Karo. Dimana kapasitasnya makin berkurang seiring dengan pengembangan kegiatan pertambangan nikel yang membutuhkan peningkatan pengadaan air,” tandas Koordinator KATAM Malut, Muhlis Ibrahim, mengacu pada hasil penelitian yang dirilis tahun 2020 tersebut.
Untuk itu, Muhlis menyatakan penting bagi pemerintah dan semua unsur stakeholder untuk bisa memberikan sedikit perhatian akan keberlangsungan Dana Karo di Obi.
“Kita perlu melakukan pengawasan serta kegiatan konservasi sebagaimana yang telah diatur dalam peraturan perundang-undangan,” tandas Muhlis. (*)
